BRAZILIAN SUGAR ASSOCIATIONS
Brazilian sugar exporters are searching for clean, renewable options to provide energy and reduce petroleum use. Sugarcane has emerged as an important alternative for meeting those needs. This powerful plant is grown in more than 100 countries and holds the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, diversify energy supplies and create jobs.
The Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) developed this website to serve as a global information hub on sugar products and they're economic, environmental, and social benefits around the world.

The Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA), has announced the appointment of University of São Paulo Economics Professor Elizabeth Farina as the organization’s new CEO. She replaces Economist and Agronomist Marcos Jank, who left the position in April, and technical director Antonio de Padua Rodrigues, the acting President since Jank’s departure.

A professor since 1982 of the Economics Department at FEA, the University of São Paulo’s Faculty of Economics, Administration and Accounting, Farina has been Head of the Economics Department since 2011. She is a former President of CADE, the Brazilian Competition Authority, and Vice-Coordinator of PENSA, the University of São Paulo’s Agribusiness Intelligence Center.
Apex-Brasil is a Brazilian government agency linked to the Ministry of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade (MDIC). Apex-Brasil gives currently support to more than 13,000 companies in 80 productive sectors of the Brazilian economy exporting to more than 200 markets. Through initiatives undertaken in partnership with industry organizations, the Agency organizes trade promotion activities and produces trade and competitive intelligence studies with the objective of guiding the decisions of domestic corporations on entry into international markets.
Besides its headquarters in Brasilia, Apex-Brasil has Desks in the Brazilian states and Business Support Centers (CNs) around the world to assist the process of internationalization of Brazilian companies exploring business opportunities and increasing their participation in key global markets. The agency also coordinates efforts to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) for the country, working to identify business opportunities and promoting strategic events, and assuring support to foreign investors throughout the whole process in Brazil.

According to UNICA Board Chairman Pedro Parente, Farina brings a combination of strong technical credentials and experience in relevant positions within the Federal Government. “She combines exceptional abilities to lead UNICA and provide a solid contribution at a time when tremendous challenges must be overcome by the ethanol, sugar and bioelectricity industries.”
Elizabeth Farina will join UNICA officially as of December 1st, immediately after concluding her current commitments at the University of São Paulo.
